Urbanized brought us its new packaging design for its soaps made out of repurposed coffee grounds. Stan Agency had not seen this type of soap before, so we were eager to take on the packaging design for this soap. We needed extensive research to find the right plan that balanced attractiveness with the company’s values.

Audience Identification

Products like Urbanized’s mocha vanilla soap exist in a niche market, so it’s vital we do quality audience research. Urbanized provided company sales data, which indicated the product appealed to younger people. That encourages us to look into trends in that marketing field so we could incorporate the advertising principles appropriately.

Research as a Custom Packaging Design Firm

Our first step involved looking into the USA soap market. We found a wide variety of companies making bar soaps, from one-person shops to large corporations. However, finding one that matched Urbanized’s values for research purposes was a challenge. Soap packaging design contains many trends, though, so we found significant inspiration to draw from.

Bonus Challenge

Soap is a tricky field to break into, but Urbanized was determined. One of the significant issues is consumer beliefs around the soap. Soap is supposed to be clean, so the idea of recycled ingredients is contradictory. We needed a packaging design for these soaps that helped people overcome their reluctance around the product.

Design Inspiration

When we started, we knew Urbanized was going to use a recyclable soap package design and that the brand centered around eco-friendliness. That was inspiring for many of the concepts. We also found eco-friendly soaps tended towards minimalism rather than extravagance, so we incorporated that in the design.

Narrowing Down the Final Options

Our professional packaging design team produced several amazing soap packaging design options, and narrowing them down was difficult. We began by considering the branding for Urbanized’s soaps. Then we examined the costs and relative eco-friendliness of the concepts before making a final decision.


The result was a modern design that Urbanized was able to put into production quickly. Immediately following the deployment, Urbanized saw an increase in sales. The company also reported greater satisfaction with the new packaging and more soaps arriving safely, which is always reassuring to hear.

The minimalist design allowed the focal point of the packaging design to be the soap. The focus was on the certifications and ingredients in the final three-color design. We were also able to evoke nature with the brown, black, and green color scheme. We were pleased to help Urbanized meet the company’s soap packaging goals, and we look forward to supporting this amazing brand more in the future.
