Industry Research
We began by examining the health and fitness industries. These industries, in the USA and elsewhere, mainly leave patients to solve their own pain. Essence’s butterfly massager is one solution to internal pain in that market. It was also vital to distinguish this product from other devices that used a similar name.
Audience Research
Audience research was the next essential step to innovative infographic design. The team found that usage skewed towards men in their 30s and 40s. These men are historically difficult to market to, so we needed a complete strategy to draw them.
Research as a Custom Infographic Firm
We investigated infographic design on similar devices, though no method was identical. We found that the infographics were always too small to read comfortably. We also found that marketing tended towards gender-based practices. That meant those companies were missing an entire market share.
Bonus Challenge
The challenge with infographic design for Essence was convincing the consumer that this product is safe to use. People read about how there will be electricity flowing through their bodies, which provokes a fear response. The infographic designs needed to reassure them that it is safe while still providing all the necessary instructions.
Brand Symbology
Since Essence makes medical devices, it tends to follow the branding trend in that field of minimalism. This option allows the devices to be the focus of the brand. This minimalism provided an excellent focus point while we were working on the infographic design. It also helped clarify the overall practical requirements.
Design Inspiration
Most of the design inspiration came from the brand. We knew what we needed to accomplish with the material inside the infographic. Consumers needed to be able to focus exclusively on that, so the team decided not to include flamboyant or distracting elements before the drafting process began.
Narrowing Down the Final Options
The Stan Agency team produced several amazing concepts for this project. After checking that all of them fit with the Essence brand, we examined how well the pieces explained each facet of the device. Ultimately, the team settled on the idea that best described the safety precautions and detailed the operating procedures.
